Internships at the Washington Pavilion

The Washington Pavilion has opportunities for various college internships. Typically, these positions are not paid positions, but they are excellent opportunities for obtaining experience in a variety of areas.

Listed below are the current internships being offered at the Washington Pavilion.  For more information please contact Nancy Kirstein.   

Grant Writing Internship
The Washington Pavilion’s Development Department coordinates a variety of grant writing proposals throughout the year. Grant writing interns who possess excellent writing skills will obtain practical and valuable experience researching, writing and completing grant applications--a skill that is valuable in any field.

Special Event Internships The Washington Pavilion's Development Department seeks interns to assist with the planning, promotion and implementation of two very important special events. These internships give the participants a good understanding of the entire scope of what goes into making special events successful. 

Arts Night Internship
Arts Night is a live art auction featuring a gourmet meal held on the Great Hall stage in early May. Interns assist the Pavilion in planning and promoting the event. Learn how art is donated, presented, and auctioned while helping the Washington Pavilion's Visual Art Center promote the sale of tickets to this unique event. 

Sidewalk Arts Festival Internship
Held in early September, the Sidewalk Arts Festival is the largest one-day outdoor arts festival in the state. Interns assist the volunteer planning committee with planning and implementing many of the logistical components of the event. Spend a summer internship helping to organize an annual event that attracts over 50,000 people and benefits the Washington Pavilion's Visual Art Center!

AG Day Internship: Being held on March 21st, 2009, AG Day is the Washington Pavilion's tribute to the importance of agriculture in our everyday lives and South Dakota's economy and coincides with National Agriculture Week.  This internship position will assist the Kirby Science and Discovery Center with corrdination of this great event.  Among various event planning duties, some of the responsibilities would be as follows: create & update spreadsheet for registered exhibitors, confirmation mailings to exhibitor, develop map of exhibitors for the event, and help organize details for lunch sponsors and other related event details.

Volunteer Staff Intern:  This lucky intern will be responsible for researching the history of the Washington Pavilion and developing a high-quality performance production that will highlight the different performances, art works, and exhibits presented in the 10 years of the Washington Pavilion’s history. This position will then be responsible for recruiting and rehearsing members of the Washington Pavilion staff and family to act as performers in the production, then coordinating with staff to develop all technical elements of the production. The show will be the premier event presented to our army of volunteers at the 10th Annual Volunteer Appreciation Evening. Other duties may include: promotion of the event to volunteers, providing research assistance with the development of a 10 year anniversary book for the Washington Pavilion.

Volunteer Staff Intern:  This internship position will be responsible for planning, research, development, and completion of a video project that will celebrate the contributions of Washington Pavilion volunteers to be viewed as a part of our 10 year Volunteer Appreciation evening. Intern will be responsible for the planning and design of the project, researching and conducting interviews with Washington Pavilion staff and patrons, gathering video and photographs of volunteers in action, and compiling a high-quality final project.
